Re: the May 20 column "Leaving the Star after 36 years but still up for a good talk."

Back in early 2014, I wrote to Bobbie Jo Buel asking if the paper would include stories about some of Arizona’s pioneering women to go along with the two regularly featured columns, Mine Tales and Street Smarts, that focus more on the men who were first in the territory. I felt these early women deserved just as much recognition, as their lives were equally interesting and informative.

I am sure she had a hand in approving the monthly column I now write, "Western Women," and I want to thank Buel for recognizing the need to bring the stories of these amazing women to the forefront. Your innovations and expertise in the daily operation of the paper will be sorely missed. I wish you the best with your future endeavors.
