If I read it correctly, the bill to ban background checks on private gun sales came out a single complaint from a constituent, which sounds more like an excuse to pass a bad bill. Hard to imagine that anyone would object to this one safety feature in the sale of guns. When someone walks into a public place with a gun none of us knows that person or what they might do, probably nothing. Probably they just want to carry a gun and already know about safety features and are sane and happy, but there is that next one who walks in and shoots someone because they had a bad day or are looking for payback from a relationship gone bad, or because they are mentally unbalanced. Those of us who do not carry guns suffer the intimidation of their presence wherever they appear. It seems reasonable that we should at least have the reassurance that the armed person has passed the minimal requirement of a background check.
