Despite the media attempts to make a story of a proven non-issue, it does " make sense" that notification of William Huff's release was not made in his neighborhood. The law does not require it. Released persons convicted of murder have the lowest recidivism rate of any category of offender. Huff had already been living in the neighborhood for almost 18 months -- without any negative incidents-- when the intrepid reporter attempted to make a story of it. If notification had taken place, just exactly what might be gained from it? Move all children from the area? Lock all children in their rooms? We have to reintegrate ex-offenders into our communities; not ban them. And he wouldn't have been released if the Board -- which has a good track record -- hadn't believed in his rehabilitation.
