Re: Four finalists named for Tucson police chief job. All candidates are from out of state.

Daryl Caudill: What a way to give those officers from Tucson encouragement to make themselves better, with their eye on the chief’s job.

It is truly a slap in the face of the assistant chiefs, captains and others in Tucson.

Gary White: Should be required to be a resident of the city to be eligible. There is zero good reason to bring outsiders in to run our police department.

Dominick San Angelo: Out of all the possible candidates in our city, not one is qualified to be chief? A strange city this has become.

Douglas Paul: There are plenty of reasons to conduct a broad search. Doing so doesn’t prohibit a Tucson candidate from applying. We pay good money for a chief. Let’s try to get the best one we can, based on an evaluation process conducted by a professional agency. If the best candidate is from within TPD, great. If not, so be it.

Curtis J. Kaufman: You don’t want to become inbred. Fresh eyes and perspective has the potential to see what is working and what isn’t.

Karen Riggs: Interesting that apparently the city feels that no one on the force is good enough to be chief. I find it scary.

Joe Arocha: Check into how much money he walks away with to start — his unlimited carryover vacation and sick time.

Kathy Bond Brown: Villaseñor should have been grooming a replacement. Good leaders have a backup.

Dan Dufour: Anyone will be better than the last. A police chief who refuses to enforce state law is a total disgrace.
