PHOENIX β The state Supreme Court has created a new court committee to provide advisory opinions on lawyer ethics and related issues.
An order signed Wednesday by Chief Justice Scott Bales to create the Attorney Ethics Advisory Committee implements a rule change approved by the full court on Aug. 28.
The creation of the 15-member committee is the latest of several moves by the Supreme Court to have the state court system itself perform tasks previously handled by the State Bar of Arizona, a professional organization overseen by the state high court.
Bales' order names Arizona Court of Appeals Judge Paul McMurdie as chairman of the new committee whose other members include attorneys, judges and a Star Bar official.
