Phillip J. Valencia

PHOENIX β€” A man accused of randomly shooting people at a birthday party in Guadalupe allegedly was trying to kill as many people as possible, authorities say.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say a male victim who was shot Sunday night later died at a hospital while a wounded woman remains hospitalized.

They say 20-year-old Phillip Valencia is jailed on suspicion of first-degree premeditated murder and assault.

It was unclear Monday if Valencia has a lawyer yet.

Valencia went to a party across the street from his grandmother's house and started shooting, sheriff's investigators say.

Valencia told authorities he was upset after having an argument with his girlfriend before the shootings.

He allegedly told authorities he wanted to shoot all the bullets from his weapon and kill as many people as he could.
