PHOENIX β A seriously injured 53-year-old woman was rescued after spending six days in the desert, including time in her vehicle which was hung up in a tree after going off a highway, Arizona authorities say.
Rescuers found the severely dehydrated woman Oct. 18 after following tracks from the vehicle that a highway maintenance crew and a rancher spotted while working along U.S. 60, several miles from Wickenburg, the Arizona Department of Public Safety says.
The woman's identity and specifics on her injuries weren't released but the department says her vehicle went off the highway when she lost control Oct. 12.
The car traveled through a fence and dropped 50 feet, landing in a mesquite tree where it was suspended above the ground, according to DPS.
According to DPS, she stayed inside the vehicle for several days before climbing out and walking toward railroad tracks to get help but didn't get there because of her weakened condition.
