A Tucson motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night when he circumvented a road closing sign and struck a concrete barrier, police said.

Louis LeCompte Jr., 65, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 1961 Harley crashed around 8 p.m. in in the 2700 block of East Drexel Road.

Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive LeCompte, who was not wearing a helmet when he was thrown from the motorcycle, a Tucson police Department news release said.

Drexel Road was closed for construction between South Tucson Boulevard and South Country Club Road, with signs and concrete barriers blocking the road, TPD said.
