Tucsonans who woke up to a chilly morning Monday could take some solace in the white stuff on top of Mt. Lemmon.Β 

While scattered showers hit the Tucson area Sunday night, between two and four inches of snow fell on Mt. Lemmon, the National Weather Service said.Β 

Temperatures are going to cool off for the rest of the week, but no more snow is expected in Tucson or in the nearby mountain ranges, the NWS said.Β 

The first widespread freeze is expected to hit Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties Wednesday morning. The NWS advised covering unprotected pipes and bringing pets indoors Wednesday morning. Plants and crops could be damaged.Β 

The road to Mt. Lemmon was open as of Monday morning, but chains and four-wheel drive is required above milepost 14, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.

Caution is advised. Conditions can change rapidly.Β

Monday's high temperature is forecast to be 61 degrees, with a low temperature of 40 degrees overnight. The NWS said there is a 20 percent chance of rain overnight.Β 

Tuesday's high temperature is expected to be 58 degrees, with a low of 32 degrees at night. Wednesday's high temperature is forecast to be 60 degrees with a low of 34 overnight. Thursday should be a bit warmer, with a high of 64 degrees and low around 37.

Showers could come back on Friday and Saturday. The NWS is forecasting a 20 percent chance of showers with highs near 60 and lows in the upper 30s. Β Β
