The 104-degree high temperature on May 4 helped make this spring the second-warmest on record in Tucson, according to the National Weather Service.
Only the 72-degree average temperature recorded for spring 1989 topped the 71.8-degree average recorded for March, April, and May, according to the spring 2017 report from the NWS in Tucson.
The Tucson area saw five days with high temperatures of 100 degrees or greater this spring, one more than the normal four days. The lowest temperature of the spring was 40 degrees recorded March 1, 2, and 7.
This spring had the warmest March on record, while April was the fourth-warmest, and May was the 22nd-warmest, according to the NWS report.
While the mercury rose, hardly any rain fell. Spring 2017 was the 10th driest on record.
Gauges at the Tucson International Airport recorded 0.23 of an inch of rain, less than one-fifth the normal 1.27 inches.
This spring marks the 12th straight spring with below-normal rainfall at the airport.
The NWS report forecasts higher-than-normal temperatures for June, which normally sees a 100.3-degree high temperature and an 84.8-degree average monthly temperature.
