Each time that a tobacco tax fails, the major proponents blame the big tobacco companies for either pouring money into the battle or distorting the truth. I am a former smoker, and “big tobacco” had nothing to do with my decision to vote against the tax increase.
If education needs additional funding, then be honest and ask for additional funds for that purpose. If you wish to reduce smoking, increase the tax and use all of those funds to help smokers end their addiction by subsidizing “stop smoking” aids.
Just quit blowing smoke by mixing the two.
