Ray Peale, who has been coordinating trail maintenance work sessions with the Arizona Trail Association (ATA) for several years, has moved and will be unable to continue in his role representing the Hiking Club as steward of Oracle Passage #13. I ’ve been assisting Ray since October 2023 and will take over for him. Ellie von Michaelis has graciously volunteered to assist.
Work sessions take place on the third Wednesday of October, November, January, February and March. Work generally consists of trimming back vegetation, improving drainage on the trail, socializing and taking photos of the lovely scenery. The Arizona Trail Association (ATA) provides the tools for our work sessions. We leave the lower MountainView parking lot by 7:30 a.m. and meet ATA personnel around 8 a.m. for a safety briefing. At 11:30 a.m., we will return to our vehicles for refreshments.
We’re hoping to see some familiar and new faces when work sessions resume in October, with the first workday on Wednesday, October 16. Sessions will be added to the Club’s website for signups. For any questions, email Lori Anderson at msalaa19@gmail.com.
