Leman Academy of Excellence will open an east-side campus in time for the 2018-19 school year.
The new campus, located at 10100 E. Golf Links Road, is the Leman Academy network's fourth to open in Southern Arizona in three years. The school is also continuing to expand elsewhere, opening a school in Mesa and one in Colorado this August.
Leman Academy is a tuition-free public charter school that offers a "classical" education focused on grammar, logic and rhetoric. It was founded in 2015 by Kevin Leman, a local psychologist and author.
The school curriculum incorporates Leman's philosophies, such as calling students scholars and striving for excellence rather than perfection.
"Not perfection. That's unattainable," said Dennis O'Reilly, Leman Academy's head of schools. "Every month we have an encourager award for those building up students around them. The layers we have implemented have come from Dr. Leman and to me that is what you call the secret sauce."
The new campus will have the capacity to serve more than 750 students in grades K-8 by 2020.
When it opens in August, the school will accept 500-600 students in grades K-6. The new location also has a preschool which is currently enrolling.

The Leman network is researching areas to build a central Tucson campus, as well as locations in Chandler and Surprise to fulfill Leman's vision of building 10 schools in 10 years, O'Reilly said.
"It's because of the demand and people like us," O'Reilly said. "They're coming to us and want us to come into the community and set up our school. It's been a neat thing to see."
Job fairs
The new campus will employ around 30 teachers, as well as support staff. Job fairs will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7 at the Marana campus, 7720 N. Silverbell Road.
