Arizona track and field took home 31 medals this past weekend at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.
Both teams finished eighth overall, with the men racking up 48 points and the women earning 46.
Senior Reinaldo Rodrigues gave the Wildcats their only first-place finish at the championship with a leap of 7.64 meters (25 feet, 0 inches) on the second day of the event.
Senior thrower Youssef Koudssi placed second in men’s discus with a throw of 59.08 (193-10). The record marked his personal best at a conference championship, according to Arizona Athletics.
Discus teammate Zach Landa placed fourth in the event with a throw of 57.94 (190-1). Landa also placed third in the shot put event with a throw of 19.88 (65-2).
Tucsonan Sam Hala’ufia finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 57.32 (188-1).
Arizona favorite Zach Extine placed sixth with a time of 13.64 in the 110-meter hurdles event on Day 3.

On the women’s side, junior Antonia Sanchez Nunez finished fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.23.
Sanchez Nunez also helped the Wildcats place third in the women’s 4x400 relay with teammates Ava Simms, Keilee Hall and Camila Aguilar-Perez. They finished with a time of 3:33.88.
Simms, along with McKenna Watson, Dakota Minor and Jade Brown, finished with a time of 44.13 in the 4x100 relay, earning the fifth-place spot on the third day of the event and breaking a program record.
Senior Mackenna Orie threw 16.20 (53-1), landing in fourth place for the shot put.
Tucson High School alumna Jenica Bosko finished in fifth with a leap of 6.36 (21-0) in the long jump.
The Wildcats started Day 1 of the championships with a bang when sophomore Erin Tack placed second in the women’s javelin with a program record finish of 54.37 (178-4).
Sierra Vista native Jesse Avina placed fourth in the men’s javelin with a throw of 66.92 (219-7).
Zach Extine broke his own record in Lubbock, Texas, at the Corky Classic in January.
Arizona is set to compete in the first rounds of the NCAA track and field championships from May 28-31 in College Station, Texas. The final rounds will be June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
