Former Arizona star Sean Elliott was named Wednesday to the College Basketball Hall of Fame, joining five other players and two coaches who will be enshrined on Nov. 18.

The Kansas City-based College Basketball Hall of Fame was founded by the NABC in 2006 to include coaches, players and teams who "who deserve recognition but may be omitted from Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame."

Elliott is the first Arizona player named to the College Basketball Hall of Fame, while former UA coach Lute Olson was among the first wave of coaches inducted in 2006. Olson is also in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, which honors contributors at all levels of the game.

Elliott was named the 1988-89 college player of the year by the AP, Wooden and numerous other organizations, while also becoming a two-time consensus all-American pick at Arizona in 1987-88 and 1988-89. Elliott led the Wildcats to the 1988 Final Four.

After his college career, the San Antonio Spurs made Elliott the No. 3 pick in the 1989 NBA Draft and Elliott wound up spending 11 of his 12 seasons in the NBA with the Spurs. He's now a Spurs TV analyst and will make an appearance at a Final Four event on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.

UCLA's Aaron Holiday is declaring for the NBA Draft.

Washington State coach Ernie Kent will have to scramble now that standout guard Malachi Flynn announced he is transferring, just 30 hours after Robert Franks said he's turning pro.

Pepperdine appears a possible destination for Flynn, since Lorenzo Romar hired Tacoma-bred assistant Curtis Allen away from WSU and Allen recruited Flynn out of Tacoma. The Cougars might even lose more players this spring, too, soΒ things may not look too good.

Washington will likely benefit from a little shoe-company competition.
