Any time the Wildcats venture to Southern California to play at the Rose Bowl or Los Angeles Coliseum, it’s a special moment.
These are the teams most of their players grew up watching, after all.
They’re not the only ones.
UA staffer Miguel Reveles shared a moment with his mother Saturday. She got to watch him coach on a college field for the first time.
Reveles, who assists in day-to-day program management with a focus on running backs and special teams, grew up nearby. His father was a janitor at the Valley Hunt Club, located near the Rose Bowl. Reveles grew up a die-hard Bruins fan; he would walk to games.
Not anymore, of course. Reveles was scheduled to fly home Saturday night on the Wildcats’ team charter.

Dick Vermeil coached at UCLA in 1974 and 1975 before moving to he NFL, where he coached the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. One of Vermeil’s seasons in Philadelphia was chronicled in the movie “Invincible,” starring Mark Wahlberg.
Vermeil was back at UCLA on Saturday night — sort of.
Actor Greg Kinnear, who portrayed Vermeil in the movie, watched the game alongside UA athletic director Greg Byrne. The Oscar-nominated actor is an Arizona graduate.

Kinnear was a guest of Byrne’s in Tucson back in 2012, when he sat with coach Rich Rodriguez and Byrne for a basketball game against Washington State.
Byrne also played golf with Kinnear once, in a group that also included former UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel and broadcasting legend Al Michaels.
“One person doesn’t fit in that group,” Byrne said. “That was me.”

Byrne arrived in Los Angeles on Thursday, and spent the better part of two days visiting with alumni.
On Friday, he visited with Brad Slater.
Who is Slater? He’s an agent for William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, one of the most prominent talent agencies in Hollywood.
Among his clients: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Costner, Ben Affleck, Michael Strahan and Brian Urlacher.

Arizona came into the season with a plan at quarterback and running back, with depth and talent at both to the point where, compared to some other spots on the roster, those positions weren’t a concern.
Zach Werlinger wasn’t a part of that plan at quarterback.
Tyrell Johnson wasn’t a part of that plan at running back.
They became the only option at one point on Saturday against UCLA.
During Saturday’s game, UA quarterback Brandon Dawkins hurt his ribs and was replaced by Werlinger.
Nick Wilson didn’t last long before leaving the game, too, leaving Johnson — a receiver — as Arizona’s best option at running back.
Werlinger threw four incomplete passes in his first quarter of action, Johnson rushed for 33 yards in the first half but fumbled once. It was recovered by Arizona.

Josh Brown retrieved his ticket on Saturday and found a familiar face on his ticket — Jayon Brown, a standout UCLA linebacker, his brother.
Brown is an Arizona linebacker commit for 2017, a three-star commit from nearby Long Beach Poly, and he was at the Rose Bowl on Saturday on an unofficial visit.
