University of Arizona vs Colorado

Jacob Cowing, left, announced on Monday that he will be returning to the Wildcats for another season.

Jacob Cowing is coming back.

Cowing, Arizona’s star wide receiver and the Pac-12 leader in receptions with 85, announced on his social media accounts Monday night that he will return to the Wildcats in 2023.

Cowing announced his decision with a video hours after receiver counterpart Dorian Singer, who leads the conference in receiving yards, revealed that he’s entering the transfer portal.

β€œEver since I was young, I dreamed about playing the game I love professionally,” Cowing said in the video. β€œAfter careful consideration and talking with my family and loved ones, I have decided that one year is not enough. Wildcat Nation, we still have business to take care of.”

Cowing spent three seasons at UTEP before transferring to Arizona ahead of the 2022 season. He quickly emerged as one of the Wildcats’ top play-makers on offense alongside Singer and star freshman Tetairoa McMillan, catching 85 passes for 1,034 yards and seven touchdowns; his 85 receptions also ranks third program history behind Bobby Wade and Dennis Northcutt. Cowing has 226 catches for 3,629 yards and 20 touchdowns over his four-year college career.

Cowing was named a first-team all-conference selection by Pro Football Focus last week.

Arizona wide receiver Jacob Cowing caught 85 passes in 2022, the third-best single-season performance in program history.

Cowing, Singer, McMillan and tight end Tanner McLachlan helped Arizona have the 22nd-best offense in FBS this season, averaging 462.4 yards per game, and the eighth-best passing offense, averaging 318.4 passing yards per game.

Cowing, McMillan, McLachlan, budding freshman tight end Keyan Burnett and slot receivers Kevin Green Jr. and Anthony Simpson, both of whom will replace Singer, will enter the 2023 season as one of the top pass-catching groups in the Pac-12, with quarterback Jayden de Laura returning for his second season at Arizona.
