Arizona Wildcats defensive end Justin Belknap could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken foot in practice Thursday.

Belknap, a redshirt junior, has started most of the past two-plus seasons. He has six tackles and one QB hurry this year. For his career, Belknap has 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 26 games.

Belknap is scheduled to have surgery Monday. The recovery timetable is 8-12 weeks. If it’s closer to eight weeks, Belknap conceivably could return for the end of the regular season.

David Kelly of KOLD TV first reported the news of Belknap’s injury.

With Belknap out, Arizona likely will turn to sophomore JB Brown and redshirt sophomore Jalen Cochran to man the defensive end position. Each has one tackle through two games.

The Brown-Cochran combo might be able to make up Belknap’s production, but his leadership will be hard to replace. Losing him also dents Arizona’s already-shaky depth along the defensive front.

Arizona hosts Southern Utah tonight before beginning Pac-12 play at Oregon State next Saturday.
