Arizona Wildcats quarterback Anu Solomon announced Tuesday that he intends to transfer.
It is believed that Solomon will graduate before next season. As a graduate transfer, Solomon, a redshirt junior in 2016, would be eligible to play right away at an FBS school.
In a post on Instagram, Solomon described his four seasons at Arizona as "worthwhile and unforgettable."
"It is with a heavy heart to announce that I am transferring from the University of Arizona," he wrote. "From highs and lows, and unlucky injuries I suffered from the past two seasons, I am blessed to have a fresh start at another program to finish out my senior year."
Solomon was Arizona's starting quarterback in 2014 and '15 and won the job coming out of training camp this past season. He started the opener against BYU but suffered a knee injury in practice a few days later.
Solomon did not play again until the Stanford game on Oct. 29. He made his lone start against Oregon State on Nov. 19 but suffered a foot injury in the second quarter that shelved him for the rest of the season.
Solomon's departure leaves Arizona with two scholarship quarterbacks on its current roster: Brandon Dawkins, who started nine games this past season, and Khalil Tate, who started one.
Arizona also has commitments from two quarterbacks for the class of 2017: four-star prospect Braxton Burmeister from La Jolla, California, and Rhett Rodriguez from Catalina Foothills High School. Burmeister is expected to enroll in January.
Solomon emerged as a breakout performer as a redshirt freshman in 2014. He passed for 3,793 yards with 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions, leading the UA to its first Pac-12 South title and a berth in the Fiesta Bowl.
Solomon was plagued by injuries in 2015. Since the '14 season, he has thrown for 3,120 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interception in 16 games.
