Signing day on campus at UA

The Arizona Wildcats football program is losing one of its top personnel administrators.

Matt Dudek, who has been an integral part of the UA program since Rich Rodriguez became the head coach in 2011, is leaving Tucson for a job with Rodriguez’s former employer.

Dudek, who had been Arizona’s general manager and director of player personnel, is set to become the director of recruiting at Michigan. An official announcement is expected Monday.

Dudek joined the UA staff in December 2011 as the program’s on-campus recruiting coordinator. He also served as the Wildcats’ liaison to the NFL, among other duties.

Dudek’s role changed last year when Rodriguez hired Chris Singletary as director of recruiting. Rodriguez and Singletary previously worked together at Michigan.

Dudek played a key role in an unprecedented run of success in Rodriguez’s first four seasons; the Wildcats played in a postseason bowl four years in a row for the first time in program history.

But Arizona slumped to a 3-9 record last season. Injuries decimated the roster for the second year in a row.

The previous offseason, Rodriguez turned over the defensive staff, in large part to beef up recruiting. Singletary was among the additions.

Dudek joins a more stable situation in Michigan. Jim Harbaugh will coach the Wolverines for as long as he desires. Rodriguez, meanwhile, could be coaching for his job this season after a down year and with a new athletic director in place.

Dudek is one of several members of the personnel department and/or coaching staff who have left Arizona this offseason.
