Timeframe appears to have accelerated for Arizona Wildcats to hire new football coach

It appears that Arizona won’t have to wait 10-plus days to hire a new football coach.

The job posting on the UA careers website now says the following: “This position is open until filled.”

When the posting originally went up Thursday, it said the position would be open until Jan. 16.

That timeframe never made sense given that the new coach will need to put a staff together as quickly as possible to reassure the current players and put the finishing touches on the 2018 recruiting class. National Signing Day is Feb. 7. Arizona announced the signing of 16 players on Dec. 20.

State guidelines require that jobs at public institutions be open for at least 10 days. However, exceptions can be allowed in "emergency" situations.
