Dick Tomey, who won more football games than any coach in Arizona Wildcats history and became a legend in both the Sonoran Desert and the Hawaiian Islands, died at age 80 on Friday, May 10, 2019.

Tomey's family said he died late Friday night. Tomey, a Tucson resident, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lung cancer around Christmas. In January, he underwent tests at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; he also received treatment at Tucson Medical Center.– Arizona Daily Star
