Kevin Sumlin

Kevin Sumlin's five-year, $14.5 million contract as Arizona's football coach one notable change from the memorandum of understanding he signed shortly after being named the UA's coach on Jan. 14.

Sumlin can receive an extra $2,025,000 per year if he hits every available performance bonus, according to a contract that will be voted on by the Arizona Board of Regents this week. The memorandum signed by Sumlin shortly after he was hired had capped his bonuses at $1.75 million per year.

Otherwise, his contract framework is nearly identical to what the Star reported more than two week ago. The contract will include offset language designed to protect the UA if Sumlin were to bolt for another school. For more on that, click on the attached links.

Here's a look at Sumlin's bonus structure. Note: Sumlin will collect for the highest-ranked achievement in each category. For instance, he won't collect for both making the Rose Bowl and winning it — just winning it.

• Sumlin can receive up to $50,000 per year depending on Arizona's academic progress report scores. He receives $25,000 if the UA's team score is 971 or higher, and $50,000 of its 1,000 or higher.
