On the eve of National Signing Day, the Arizona Wildcats received a verbal commitment from three-star safety/outside linebacker hybrid Dayven Coleman.
Coleman selected the UA over Illinois, Kansas State and Utah. Coleman committed to the Wildcats on Fox 4 in Dallas.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Coleman from Mesquite, Texas, becomes the first offer to commit to the Wildcats under first-year head coach Kevin Sumlin. Arizona received a verbal commitment last week from long snapper Geno Albini, but as a preferred walk-on.
Once a UCLA commit, Coleman decommitted from the Bruins in early November and took an official visit to Arizona on Nov. 10. Four days later, the Wildcats thumped UCLA 47-30 at home.
Coleman is the third safety of the 2018 UA recruiting class and joins three-star Christian Young (Richmond, Texas) and Armani Adams (Saint Petersburg, Florida). However, Coleman is different, because he's a hybrid between a safety and outside linebacker. In Coleman's senior season at West Mesquite High School, sometimes he was positioned as a natural safety in the secondary on third and long situations, or he blitzed the quarterback.

Coleman is now the sixth verbally committed player in Arizona's 2018 class. The Wildcats currently have 22 total players either signed or verbally committed for 2018. National Signing Day begins Wednesday, Feb. 7.
