The short-lived Rushing era at Arizona lasted less than a year.
Tucson native and former Salpointe Catholic High School star safety Cruz Rushing entered the transfer portal on Thursday, which was expected to happen after his younger brother Elijah Rushing, a five-star prospect and All-American edge rusher, decommitted from the Wildcats and flipped to Oregon.
Rushing was set to become the highest-rated prospect in program history before announcing his decommitment on his social media platforms and said, “Although it is evident that the program is on the rise, I have to consider my future goal. I have come to conclusion that the program is not the right fit for me to take my next step with regard to my development.”
The older Rushing, a former walk-on at Florida, transferred to the UA in January, but didn't appear on defense or special teams this season. The 6-1, 205-pound Rushing is the seventh player to leave Arizona since the transfer portal opened on Monday.
