Taran Alvelo kept the University of Arizona softball team’s offense in check to finish off a three-game sweep for No. 1-ranked Washington.

Alvelo (16-1) struck out eight and allowed only one hit as the Huskies (32-2, 4-2) won 2-0 in Seattle in a quick game that lasted only 1 hour, 23 minutes.

Taylor McQuillin (16-4) suffered the loss for the third straight day despite allowing only two runs on four hits in six innings. Her ERA rose to 1.07. She is tied with Alvelo for the national lead in victories.

Ashleigh Hughes recorded the only hit for No. 9 UA (24-6, 3-3). Her single in the top of the first was the last hit of the day for the Wildcats.

Noelle Hee homered for the Huskies, who had been unbeaten on the season before losing two of three to Arizona State last weekend. The weekend sweep is the first for UW over the Wildcats since 2010.

UA next hosts No. 20 Cal for a three-game series starting Thursday night.
