Defensive tackle Marcus Griffin, left, will leave Arizona as a graduate transfer this spring.

Arizona Wildcats defensive tackle Marcus Griffin has announced his intention to transfer.

This was not an unexpected development. Griffin has one more year of eligibility but participated in Arizona’s Senior Night ceremony on Nov. 11. He began the season as a redshirt junior before being reclassified as a senior. As a grad transfer, Griffin would be eligibility immediately at another FBS school.

A four-star prospect according to some recruiting sites, Griffin never gained traction at Arizona. He appeared in 11 games over the past three seasons, totaling five tackles, one TFL and one pass breakup.

Griffin, who’s from Bellevue, Washington, on Tuesday tweeted a message of thanks to the university, the coaching staff, the fans and his teammates.

“These last four years have been some of the best of my life,” Griffin wrote. “Met some lifelong friends and had unforgettable memories. After much prayer and thought amongst my family, we decided it would be best for me to transfer from the University of Arizona after receiving my degree in the spring. … I am blessed and excited to have a fresh start at another program for my senior year.”
