Arizona assistant director of basketball operations Danny Peters, also an Ohio State grad, watches during Arizona's practice Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Have been told that Danny Peters, Arizona's well-regarded assistant director of operations, is now expected to re-join coach James Whitford as an assistant coach at Ball State.

Whitford, the former UA associate head coach, hadΒ two assistant coaches to hire after last season, because associate head coach Brett Nelson left to become an assistant coach at Marquette and Billy Wright left to be the head coach at Western Illinois.

Peters' father, Dan, is the director of basketball operations at Akron and has been fighting a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Whitford has a strong connection to both of them.

To fill Peters' spot, UA will bring back Ben Tucker, a student manager at Arizona who worked under Kevin O'Neill, Russ Pennell and Sean Miller, and was an assistant at the College of Idaho last season. (Tucker's move was first reported by KGUN).
