Arizona junior shortstop Mason White has been named the Big 12 co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
White went 9 for 19 (.474) with four runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in four games against Grand Canyon and BYU. The Wildcats snapped a four-game losing streak against the Antelopes and took two of three from the Cougars.
Arizona batter Mason White fights off a pitch to earn an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the first inning against Oklahoma State in their Big 12 game April 11 at Hi Corbett Field.
White, a graduate of Salpointe Catholic High School, raised his season batting average to .325. He leads the Wildcats with nine home runs and 44 RBIs; the latter is tied for second in the Big 12.
Both of White’s homers at BYU turned out to be game-winning hits. His career total of 38 ranks fourth on Arizona’s all-time list. He trails former teammate Chase Davis by one for third place.
White shared the Player of the Week award with BYU’s Ryder Robinson.
Another Wildcat, junior catcher Adonys Guzman, received recognition last week when he was named to the Buster Posey Award midseason watchlist. Guzman is batting .327 with four home runs, 27 RBIs and a .400 on-base percentage.
Arizona, which hosts UT Arlington on Wednesday, moved up six spots in D1Baseball’s Top 25, landing at No. 16. Baseball America ranked the Wildcats 21st, two spots higher than last week.
