The Arizona women’s basketball team withstood a late rally to defeat Eastern Kentucky 87-83 Wednesday at McKale Center.

Mickayla Perdue had a game-high 27 points, and Noelani Cornfield had 22 points, eight assists and zero turnovers as the Wildcats (7-2) ended a two-game losing streak.

Nora Francois’ layup gave Arizona a 75-63 lead with 5:34 remaining. The Colonels (7-2) then went on a 14-3 run to trim the deficit to 78-77 with 1:52 to play.

The Wildcats put the game away at the foul line. Cornfield and Sumayah Sugapong combined to make 7 of 8 free throws in the final 1:36. Arizona shot 79.2% (19 of 24) overall from the stripe after making just 63% (17 of 27) of its foul shots against New Mexico on Sunday.

Freshman forward Daniah Trammell finished with 11 points, three rebounds, one block and one steal. Guard Tanyuel Welch provided defense and rebounding off the bench, finishing with a career-high-tying 11 boards and a team-best plus-14 plus/minus rating in 33 minutes.

The Wildcats shot 50% from the floor while limiting the Colonels to 38%. Arizona won despite committing 15 turnovers and yielding 20 second-chance points.

Arizona has two nonconference games remaining against Chicago State (Monday, Dec. 15) and Bellarmine (Thursday, Dec. 18). The Wildcats open Big 12 play Dec. 22 vs. Utah.
