Guard Kailyn Gilbert, shown warming up at McKale Center on Feb. 16, has entered the transfer portal and is no longer on Arizona’s online roster.

Former Arizona guard Kailyn Gilbert entered the transfer portal on Monday — the first day it opened for women’s basketball — as first reported by Talia Goodman of The Next Hoops.

Gilbert’s entry was no surprise as she was dismissed from the team on Feb. 26 after a meeting with Arizona coach Adia Barnes.

At the time, Barnes told the Star that “making tough decisions is part of leadership and I had to do what was best for the team.”

In the leadup to that, Gilbert had missed three games against Cal, Stanford and ASU for undisclosed reasons. She played limited minutes on the Los Angeles trip, averaging 13 per game.

The last time she played was on Feb. 18 in a triple-overtime, 90-82 win over Washington. She saw less than three minutes of action and registered no stats.

The sophomore averaged 15.1 points per game, and her 348 total points still lead the Wildcats despite no longer being with the team.

Gilbert was the second player to leave the team this season as Maya Nnaji left in December to focus on academics. Neither player’s profile appeared on the UA’s online roster page as of Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 5-3 record in their final eight games and will play Auburn in a First Four matchup in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut.
