In ESPN's latest mock NFL Draft, draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. projects Arizona left tackle Jordan Morgan to land in the first round at No. 22 overall.
If Morgan, who's in his final season at the UA, is selected in the first round of the 2024 draft, he will become the first Wildcat picked in the first round since Antoine Cason in 2007. Tucson native John Fina, who was taken by the Buffalo Bills at No. 27 overall in 1992, is currently the last Wildcat offensive lineman taken in the first round.
Morgan could also become the fourth Tucson-area product to land in the first round, joining Mike Dawson, Fina and running back Bijan Robinson, who's in his rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons.
Morgan conceivably could have declared for the NFL Draft last season as a potential Day 1 or Day 2 prospect, but a season-ending knee injury hindered the 6-5, 325-pound Marana native from draft preparation such as a Pro Day in Tucson or the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis. Morgan returned for his final season and was held out of spring practices. He was limited in preseason training camp.Β
But since his return at the start of the season, Morgan, who entered the year as a preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team selection, has an 83.8 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. Morgan has the fifth-best PFF grade (75.6) on Arizona's offense.Β
"IΒ wrote about MorganΒ before the season, picking him as a prospect who could rise if he shows he's healthy. Well, he looks great. After tearing the ACL in his right knee last November, he rehabbed in the spring to get ready and was able to return for Week 1," Kiper wrote in his review of Morgan.
"Morgan is extremely consistent from snap to snap. His footwork is terrific in pass protection, and I love his ease of movement and ability to bend. Morgan stays active with his hands, and he can get to the next level on combo blocks. He handles twists really well and can deal with inside and outside moves with ease. If he keeps this up, he could move even higher in Round 1."
Kiper has Morgan as the No. 4 tackle eligible for the upcoming draft behind Olu Fashanu (Penn State), Joe Alt (Notre Dame) and JC Latham (Alabama).Β
