Arizona kicked off the fourth week of its spring football practice schedule on Tuesday.Β

Here are notes and takeaways from the Wildcats' 10th practice:Β

Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Brandon Phelps (18) gets a step and the catch on defensive back Devin Dunn (28) in the team’s first practice of the season in Arizona Stadium on Aug. 9, 2024.

* Kansas State wide receiver transfer Tre Spivey had a Tetairoa McMillan-esque turnaround one-handed catch in a one-on-one drill. Spivey also caught a 65-yard touchdown from quarterback Noah Fifita during the first team period.Β

* Freshman running back and Dallas-area native Cornelius Warren III broke out for a 10-yard run.

* Texas State transfer Ismail Mahdi picked up blitzing linebacker Chase Kennedy in the backfield, allowing Wisconsin transfer quarterback Braedyn Locke to complete a deep pass to New Mexico transfer receiver Luke Wysong near the left sideline.Β

* Defensive tackle Tiaoalii Savea had a sack. In the same team period, slot receiver Jeremiah Patterson ran a slant route and took the pass over 50 yards for a touchdown.Β

* Arizona is still finding its linebacker combination. Kennedy and Montana transfer Riley Wilson were a linebacker tandem. Returning starter Taye Brown, Texas State transfer Max Harris and redshirt freshman Jabari Mann, among others, have rotated in. Redshirt senior Justin Flowe’s involvement in the defense has been limited.Β

* Harris had a big hit on running back Kedrick Reescano at the line of scrimmage.Β

* Freshman receiver and Orlando native Isaiah Mizell caught a pass near the right sideline after running a curl route, turned to the sideline and dashed for a long touchdown. Mizell is arguably the Wildcats’ fastest player, especially in the open field.Β

* Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Devin Hyatt, who suffered a gruesome foot injury in the Territorial Cup, participated in walk-throughs.Β

* Redshirt freshman receiver Brandon Phelps, one of Arizona’s rising prospects this spring, made another impressive play on Tuesday and high-pointed a ball over Texas transfer defensive back Jay’Vion Cole. Phelps and Spivey, both Phoenix-area products, have improved in the McMillan role at β€œX” receiver in Arizona’s offense. Arizona head coach Brent Brennan said, β€œIt’s great to see Brandon Phelps healthy and making plays again. ... So far, he’s had a really good spring. I think everyone on the team is excited about him and excited about his future.”
