BOULDER, Colo. β Saturday was a two-fer for the Arizona Wildcats on the field and the recruiting trail. Moments after No. 21 Arizona edged Colorado 34-31, the Wildcats landed a commitment from in-state, two-way star Dylan Tapley for 2024.
The three-star Tapley, a senior at Scottsdale Desert Mountain High School, pledged to the Wildcats after decommitting from Arizona State; he was the Sun Devilsβ first in-state commit under new head coach Kenny Dillingham.
Tapley also yielded offers from Oregon, Iowa State, Kansas, Colorado State and Kansas State, among others.
The 6-4, 205-pound Tapley, who will join the Wildcats as a wide receiver, has 146 catches for 2,448 yards and 34 touchdowns over his three-year varsity career. As a defender, Tapley has 110 tackles and 16 interceptions in three seasons.
βThe trajectory of the team is really promising and you can tell that they have improved every year under coach (Jedd) Fisch,β Tapley told 247Sports national recruiting analyst Blair Angulo. βIβm an in-state guy so itβs going to be big for us moving to a new conference and trying to get more local guys to join. Weβre all excited with where the program is headed.β
Moments after Arizonaβs 34-31 win over Colorado, the Wildcats flipped former Arizona State commit and Phoenix-area wide receiver Dylan Tapley.
Tapley is the sixth in-state commit for the Wildcatsβ 22-player 2024 recruiting class, joining four-star quarterback Demond Williams, wide receiver Brandon Phelps, running back Adam Mohammed and offensive linemen Matthew Lado and Michael Watkins. Phelps owns state records for most career receiving yards (4,475), touchdowns (60) and receptions (271).
Arizona has four wide receivers lined up for β24 between Tapley, Phelps, Las Vegas product Audric Harris and Los Angeles-area standout Turran Williams.
