Arizona senior kicker Tyler Loop was named the Lou Groza Star of the Week following the Wildcats' 23-10 win over the 10th-ranked Utah Utes. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced the weekly honor for Loop on Tuesday.
Loop tied his career-high with three field goals, including a 33-, 47- and a 53-yarder. Loop's fourth and final attempt on Saturday was a missed 56-yarder in the fourth quarter. Loop's two extra points against Utah extended his perfect PAT rate at 115-for-115 over his five-year career.
All 24 of Loop's kickoff attempts this season are touchbacks. Loop's 84.8% career field-goal rate is the second-best among active college kickers with at least 50 attempts.
Arizona kicker Tyler Loop knocks through a 53-yard field goal on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, against Utah in Salt Lake City.
"He's incredible. I've never been on a football team where if the ball is at the (50-yard line) and you're like, 'Want to kick it?' That’s an insane conversation,” Arizona head coach Brent Brennan said in Salt Lake City. “That speaks to his talent and the hard work he puts in. We're going to continue to give him a chance to make plays for us like he did. The kickoffs, too, people were catching those in the stands."
Arizona (3-1) faces Texas Tech (4-1) for its Big 12 home opener at Arizona Stadium on Saturday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
