Greg Hansen

Arizona Daily Star sports columnist Greg Hansen.

In a radio interview this week, Star sports columnist Greg Hansen angered  some Arizona Wildcats fans already fuming over his stance that men’s basketball coach Sean Miller needs to go.

In an appearance Tuesday on the “Bickley & Marotta” show on Arizona Sports 98.7, Hansen said he heard that ESPN incorrectly named Deandre Ayton as the player Miller reportedly discussed paying to bring to the UA. He hinted that someone involved in the case had told him the discussion was actually about another player. Hansen actually had heard that information third-hand, and Star reporters had not confirmed it.

Following the interview, Hansen realized he had misspoken. He went back on air to apologize and clarify his statement. Hansen told 98.7 that the information was not verified enough to be used in the newspaper, and should not have been spoken on radio, either.

Hansen also tweeted a correction to Star readers on social media. Hansen spoke more about Miller's future, the holes in ESPN's timeline and the effect that Arizona's struggles will have on Tucson in the most recent Wildcast podcast. Click here to listen.
