Amphitheater High School will hold a public memorial for legendary football coach Vern Friedli on Aug. 5. The service will begin at 3 p.m. at the school, located at 125 W. Yavapai Rd.
Friedli, 80, died Friday following a prolonged decline in health. Widely considered to be one of the greatest coaches in state history, Friedli won 331 career games in at Morenci, Casa Grande, San Manuel and Amphi. He was synonymous with the Panthers' program, even after retiring from the school in 2011.
