Salpointe Catholic breezes past Gilbert Higley, earns spot in 4A state semis (w/scores and schedule)

Salpointe Catholic's girls soccer team is one win away from returning to the state championship game. 

The Lancers blanked Gilbert Higley 6-0 on Saturday in the Class 4A state quarterfinals. Freshman Sienna Gonzalez, senior Isabella Almazan and juniors Kalista Kakou and Aryanna Sanchez all scored. Both Gonzalez and Kakou had two goals each.

Salpointe will play Prescott in Tuesday's semifinals. Win, and the Lancers will appear in their third straight state title game. They lost in 2016 and won last year. 

"I think, having been in the state tournament all four years here in Salpointe, we have experience under our belt,” senior co-captain Lauren Bollinger said. “We’re going to look at (the Prescott game) the same way we looked at this game – it’s just another game. We have to go out, finish every opportunity we get and see what happens.”

Catalina Foothills and Ironwood Ridge also moved on to the state semifinals with wins Saturday. Tanque Verde was eliminated by Fountain Hills.

In boys soccer, Sunnyside and Flowing Wells were eliminated Saturday while Salpointe Catholic aSand Sabino will continue onto the semifinals.

The last two rounds of the state tournament will take place in neutral locations, both of them in Gilbert. Here’s a look at Saturday’s scores and what awaits the winner:
