Pro Football Focus (PFF) has become one of the preferred go-to information sites in the NFL and NCAA, a statistical beacon with unprecedented insight into the game.
Last week, in one of its 2025 Mock Drafts, it projected Arizona junior receiver Tetairoa McMillan as the second overall pick. Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter was No. 1.
Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, left, steps through a trio of Houston defenders after snaring a catch over the middle in the third quarter of their Big 12 game on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at Arizona Stadium.
If so, it would be somewhat historic. Only three receivers have ever been the No. 1 overall pick: Texas Tech’s David Parks, 1964; Nebraska’s Irving Fryar, 1984; and USC’s Keshawn Johnson, 1996.
Only two college receivers have been the overall No. 2 pick: Michigan State’s Charlie Rogers, 2003; and Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson, 2007.
Is T-Mac in that class? I mean, Jerry Rice was just the 16th overall pick in 1985, Larry Fitzgerald wasn’t drafted until the third pick, and Hall of Famer Lynn Swann didn’t go until the 21st pick.
It is beginning to look more and more like T-Mac will be the highest draft pick ever from Arizona. As it sits today, linebacker Ricky Hunley, No. 7 in 1983, and linebacker Chris Singleton, No. 8 in 1990, are the only Wildcats taken in the top 10.
