Brett Brennan will earn $3 million from Arizona as its head football coach this season, but that’s just a fraction of what the total staff behind the Wildcats will cost.
Like many power-conference programs, Arizona has a long list of assistant coaches, analysts and support staffers, making for a total football staff budget of over $11 million.
When he signed a five-year contract to take over the UA football program in January 2024, the UA football coach was given a maximum of $4.25 million salary pool to hire his assistant coaches.
This season, according to contracts provided under a public records request by the Star, UA assistant coaches will total $5.32 million, with the highest salaries going to offensive coordinator Seth Doege ($750,000), associate head coach Joe Salave’a ($750,000) and defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales ($600,000).
Salave’a and Doege were new hires this season, while Gonzales, a former New Mexico head coach, was promoted to defensive coordinator after spending last season as a special teams/linebacker coach at a salary of $425,000.

The assistants’ collective salaries of $5.32 million are in addition to over $500,000 for eight analysts and roughly $2.4 million for 25 support staffers, putting UA football’s total salaries over $11 million. The analysts’ collective salaries are an estimate since many contracts were not available when UA issued its response to the Star’s public records request earlier this month.
