The name "Sesame Street" comes from the tale "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves" in which the magic words "Open, sesame" were used to open a cave.

Best matching game

Wonder Forge Sesame Street Matching Game: available at Amazon

Our take: A colorful picture matching game for ages 3 and up that works on focus and memory skills.

What we like: This fun matching game comes with 72 tiles and instructions on how to play the game. Simply set up as many tiles as you’d like face down and take turns flipping them over to create matches of your favorite characters like Abby, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird and Cookie Monster. Modify the difficulty level by flipping four cards per turn instead of two.

What we dislike: You have to manually separate all 72 tiles from the cardboard before playing the first game.

Best learning gift

Sesame Street Playskool Cookie Monster's On-the-Go Numbers: available at Amazon

Our take: This 20-piece set of cookies and numbers comes with an adorable Cookie Monster carrying case with a handle.

What we like: Your child will be able to practice counting from 1-10 with a removable set of numbers. Ten brightly colored cookie-shaped pieces hide Sesame Street characters underneath. Once you’re done playing, simply pack it up and close the carrying case.

What we dislike: It can be difficult to remove the cookies from the case.

Best set of figures

Playskool-Sesame-Street Collector Pack of 5 Figures: available at Amazon

Our take: A 5-pack of small figurines perfectly sized for little hands.

What we like: Featuring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, Oscar and Abby, these cute figurines are great for ages 18 months and up. Each figure is 2.75 inches tall and can also double as a cake topper for Sesame Street-themed birthday parties.

What we dislike: The figures are hollow plastic.

Best plush toy

Sesame Street Love to Hug Elmo: available at Amazon

Our take: Love to Hug Elmo loves hugs and will sing, speak and give you a kiss.

What we like: This adorable Elmo toy features both English and Spanish modes. Simply squeeze Elmo and he’ll raise his arms to ask for a hug. After he receives a hug he responds with either a kiss, a song about hugs or he’ll tell you how much he loves hugs.

What we dislike: Some parents felt that the body was too hard to be considered huggable.

Best interactive book

Sesame Street Elmo Potty Time Songs Book: available at Kohl’s

Our take: Watch and learn as Elmo teaches baby David how to use the toilet with this interactive potty time songs book.

What we like: This storybook features seven different sounds to teach baby David how to use the potty, with a different combination on each page of the story. Batteries are included.

What we dislike: There were several reports of the book arriving and not working, but that may be a battery issue.

Best set of blocks

Bright Starts Set-the-Scene Sesame Street Wooden Storytelling Blocks: available at Amazon and Bed Bath & Beyond

Our take: This set comes with 50 premium wooden blocks featuring Sesame Street characters like Big Bird, Elmo and Count von Count.

What we like: This adorable and budget-friendly collection of blocks includes the set of Sesame Street and its most beloved characters and accessories. These stackable blocks encourage imaginary play and the development of fine motor skills.

What we dislike: A few reviewers mentioned the blocks were smaller than they anticipated.
