Happy 241st Birthday, Tucson!

If you're as excited as we are for Tucson to turn another year old, you can show your love at any of these events around town. Our city's actual birthday is Saturday, Aug. 20 but there are celebrations all weekend:


🎂  Watch a movie outside

Stella! There will be popcorn, a classic film, and free cupcakes (while supplies last). Cinema La Placita is showing "A Streetcar Named Desire" as part of their outdoor film series. 

When: Thursday, August 18, 7:30 p.m.

Where: The courtyard of the Pima County Courthouse, 115 N. Church Ave.

Cost: $3 per person


🎂  Celebrate with a bang

The Presidio Museum has teamed up with the City of Tucson to throw a birthday bash with food, a mariachi band, birthday cake AND A CANNON!

When: Friday, August 19, Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and event starts at 6 p.m.

Where: The Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum, 196 N. Court Ave.

Cost: Free

*Experience the museum a second time with free admission on Tucson's actual birthday (Aug. 20).

🐘  Another thing to celebrate

Tucson's favorite elephant is turning two! Nandi and the rest of the Reid Park Zoo invite you to play some activities and do some crafts. And you can bring elephant origami to help Elephant Origami Challenge break a record. 

When: Saturday, August 20, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Reid Park Zoo, 3400 E. Zoo Ct.

Cost: Activities are free with park admission

  • Park admission: $10.50 adults ages 15-61, $8.50 seniors ages 62+, $6.50 children ages 2-14, children age 0-1 are free.

🎂  Trains and cake

The Southern Arizona Transportation Museum invites you to celebrate Tucson's birthday with them. There will be special appearances, trains and music, oh and cake!

When: Saturday, August 20, 10:30 a.m.

Where: The event will take place in the Amtrak Depot Lobby (400 N. Toole Ave.) but you can go into the museum (414 N. Toole Ave.) for other kid-friendly activities.

Cost: Free

🎂  1912 just wants to drink beer

Head to 1912 Brewing Company for beers from around Tucson, art and live music.

When: Saturday, August 20, 12 p.m.

Where: 1912 Brewing Company, 2045 N. Forbes Blvd #105

Cost: Free

🎂  Mission Garden

Celebrate Tucson, the Mission Garden’s New Education Center and margaritas! There will be hors d’oeuvres, cake, drinks, live music and opportunities to support the Mission Garden.

When: Saturday, August 20, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Where: Mission Garden

Cost: $29 per ticket

Go see Tombstone at The Loft Cinema and enjoy some cake (while supplies last).

When: Wednesday, August 31, 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd.

Cost: General admission ($9.50), senior ($6.50), student with ID ($7.75), military with ID ($7.75), child ($6.50)
