Go to a Day of the Dead festival

Tohono Chul is throwing its Chiles, Chocolate, & Day of the Dead Festival this weekend. Expect to buy chiles, indulge in chocolate and participate in Day-of-the-Dead-inspired crafts. Check it out here.

Bear Down with alumni

Bear Down Fridays is bigger during Family Weekend and Homecoming and homecoming is this weekend. There will be special guests, live music and activities. 

When: Friday, Oct. 28, 4-7:15 p.m.

Have a feast with the departed

Feast with the Dearly Departed is back at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. This event brings face painters, mariachi music, pan de muerto and sugar skulls to the gardens. Guests are welcome to bring notes and mementos to place at the offering and participate in a candle-lit procession for a departed loved one.

When: Friday, Oct. 28, 5-8 p.m.

Where: Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way

Enjoy a free day at the poetry center

At the University of Arizona Poetry Center, you and your kiddo (0-13) can learn, eat and play. Family Day is a free series of creative writing workshops.

Attend a fall festival

The 21st annual Fall Festival at Grijalva Park is back with plenty of kid-friendly activities and entertainment. Limited sodas and waters will be available so bring a picnic lunch or snacks.

Where: Grijalva Park, 5775 S. Oak Tree Dr.

There will be plenty of children's activities, food, live music and vendor booths.

Decorate sugar skulls

Eckstrom-Columbus Library is having a sugar skulls craft hour. Go to decorate a sugar skull for a loved one or just to be creative. Get there early because supplies are limited.

Have a classy night out

Grapes to Glass: Art and Wine Festival is back for its second year so skip the Halloween parties and enjoy live music, local wines and art. 

TIP: Buy your tickets this week at Maynards Market and get wine gummy bears with your purchase (while supplies last).

Enter the Upside Down

Everyone's favorite Netflix Original is coming to life through art. At The Upside Down Art Show, you'll see art inspired by "Stranger Things." Isn't that enough of a reason to go? We think so.

Where: Xpanded Universe, 197 E. Toole Ave.

SUNDAY

Ride, walk or jog the streets

Get a group of friends or the family together for a worry-free bike ride or walk. Cyclovia is giving Tucsonans a 2.25 mile route without cars. You'll get into the Tucson Botanical Gardens for free and you'll get to participate in activities along the route. (PS: We'll be there, come visit!)

Cyclists and pedestrians alike enjoy the pleasant weather and car-free streets along North Fifth Avenue as about 2.6 miles of the city's streets are blocked off as part of Cyclovia. A number of activities were staged along the route and from beginning to end with chances for people to enjoy and share in the fun. The route this time went from Fontana Avenue and Blacklidge Drive to the Sixth Avenue and Seventh Street business and arts district.

Take a stroll through a cemetery 

Tubac is having a Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration at the Presidio State Historic Park. This event is meant to honor people who have passed so there will be a procession through a cemetery but there will also be music, food, activities, and a bonfire.

When: Sunday, Oct. 30, noon to 4 p.m.

Where: Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, 1 Burruel Street 

Cost: $7.50 for adults and $2.50 for children and bring extra for anything else you might buy

Watch The Case of Sleepy Hollow for the last time

The Case of Sleepy Hollow is a 45-minute show where you become part of the story as you walk through Valley of the Moon. You'll learn if there really is a Headless Horseman. This is the last weekend, check Valley of the Moon's website for times and dates. 

When: Sunday, Oct. 30, 6-8:30 p.m.

Where: Valley of the Moon, 2544 E. Allen Rd.

Cost: General admission is $10, students pay $5, children (7 and younger) and members are free. You can order your tickets in advance or on the day of the show.
