Movies in the Park

Since its start in 2003, the Movies in the Park series has gone from a projector and a repurposed bed sheet to a digital projector and a movie screen. The series returns to the Demeester Performing Arts Center in Reid Park on the first Friday of each month through September.

We're still trying to shake off the excitement that was Fourth of July in Tucson. 

Luckily, the weekend is coming soon. And you know we like to give you a list of things to do. This weekend is full of movies and dance parties. Enjoy!

Movies in the Park: "The Secret Life of Pets"

Friday is movie night. Get the whole family together for a free screening of "The Secret Life of Pets" under the stars. There will be food trucks on site and family-friendly activities before the movie at 6 p.m. Don't forget to bring money if you're going to buy from the food trucks.

Free Summer Dance Party at Funtasticks

Attend a variety show and dance party

Cirque Roots is hosting a variety show and then a dance party with DJ Elliot Tierney and Soundscrybe. The first 25 attendees get a free Cirque Roots bandana to keep you cool during the dance party.

Summer Reading Celebration at Reid Park Zoo

The Pima County Library is hosting a wild celebration at the Zoo with crafts, temporary tattoos, character meet ups and a free book from the Bookbike.

Don't forget to stop by a Pima County Library to pick up an invitation to the Summer Reading Zoo Celebration. This invitation will get children ages 2-14 into the Zoo for free and 50 percent off admission for one guest.

Art After Dark at the Children's Museum

Learn how to juggle from Cirque Roots, dance along to the DJ stylings of MOCA's Robot DJ, and other hands-on activities.

Cat Video Fest at The Loft

Where: The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd.

Cost: General admission is $8 and $6 for Loft members and children 12 and under.

Go salsa dancing at Movement Culture

First, learn how to dance salsa and bachata. After the lesson, dance with other salsa lovers.

Make a succulent-cholla log at Green Things

Make a super cute log of succulents that catches the sun. Either Instagram it to make all your friends jealous or hang it up in your kitchen. And like always, the demonstration is free and if you want to make your own, you can bring your own supplies or buy them there. Click RSVP on the Facebook Event to indicate you're going.  Green Things sell chollas around $10 and succulents starting at $1.99.

Celebrate local foods with the Food Conspiracy Co-op
