Freaky Foot Tours promises a mix of historical storytelling and spine-chilling ghost stories.

Freaky Foot Tours, the popular Flagstaff ghost tour company known for its captivating blend of history and hauntings, has expanded its operations to Tucson’s historic downtown, offering a fresh weekly walking tour for locals and visitors alike.Β

These new tours promise an engaging mix of historical storytelling and spine-chilling ghost stories, bringing Tucson’s rich past to life β€” and possibly beyond.

Freaky Foot Tours has been a staple in Flagstaff, offering tours that intertwine the eerie with the educational. But as of January 2025, the company has set its sights on Tucson β€” a city we know for its charm and rich cultural heritage, but might also be known for its lingering spirits.Β

β€œWe’ve always been captivated by the idea that history never truly leaves us,” said the company’s co-founder, Nick Jones. β€œBy telling Tucson’s stories in an interactive way, we not only bring the past to life, but we also give people a chance to experience the supernatural side of that history.”

Tucson’s downtown is steeped in centuries of history, from its founding in the late 1700s as a Spanish presidio to its later role as a frontier town during the Wild West era. For Jones and his team of tour guides, these layers of history are perfect for weaving together tales of triumph and tragedy β€” tales that sometimes, they claim, have yet to leave.

The daily $25 walking tours start at the historic Hotel Congress, where participants gather for a brief introduction before embarking on a journey through Tucson’s storied streets of downtown.Β

The tours, which run every evening at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., take visitors by iconic sites, including the historic Hotel Congress, which is rumored to be home to several restless spirits, and the Old Pima County Courthouse, where ghostly apparitions and strange noises have long been reported, Jones added.

Along the way, guides share a mix of historical facts, folklore and eerie encounters that have been recounted by past tour-goers and local historians alike. According to Jones, the tours are designed to be immersive experiences that blend historical accuracy with a little bit of theatrical flair.

Freaky Foot Tours has expanded to Tucson.

β€œWe want to make sure that people leave the tour not just having learned something new, but also having had an unforgettable experience,” Jones said. β€œWhether it’s hearing about the jailhouse break-ins at Hotel Congress or the ghostly visions seen by those who’ve wandered the courthouse after dark, there’s something special about hearing these stories firsthand.”

The new ghost tours are already drawing crowds, both from Tucson residents looking to learn more about their city’s past and tourists looking for an unusual way to explore the downtown area, Jones added.Β

β€œPeople are always looking for new ways to experience a city, especially when it involves history with a bit of a thrill,” Jones said. β€œWe’re bringing that experience to Tucson in a way that celebrates its unique past, and we’re excited to see the response.”

With the success of their initial tours, Freaky Foot Tours has plans to expand the scope of their offerings, possibly introducing additional themed tours and extending their operating hours during peak tourist seasons.Β

As Tucson continues to embrace its unique blend of history and mystery, downtown may just be the next hotspot for those seeking to learn about the past β€” and maybe even meet a ghost or two along the way.
