If you've got baby fever, make plans to check out Tucson's Natural Birth and Baby Fest this Saturday.
Childbirth educator Elizabeth Mendoza started the event three years ago as a way to teach parents and parents-to-be about their options when it comes to "a more natural-leaning birth experience or pregnancy."
She has gathered more than 40 vendors, including doulas, midwives, chiropractors, babywearing experts, yoga instructors and postpartum and lactation specialists, among others.
"This is an event to celebrate pregnancy, postpartum and babies," said Mendoza, who also owns the childbirth preparation and support business Wisdom Within. "It helps bring together people who are expecting to have new babies and support people or businesses who may be able to help them make pregnancy and birth and having a baby a bit easier."
As a professional in this industry, Mendoza created the event out of a need she saw to better inform Tucson parents about their childbirth options.
"It has nothing to do with un-medicated births or not getting pain medication," she said. "We still welcome any kind of parent or any choices that they would like to make. It's about exploring options and seeing what's available."
That includes giving you the option to sit in on some free classes and presentations. Here's what you can expect:
• Babywearing Basics - 10 a.m.
• Healthy Eating for Two - 10 a.m.
• Storytime for Baby - 10:30 and 11:15 a.m.
• Cloth Diapering 101 - 11 a.m.
• Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy and Childhood - 11 a.m.
• Comfort Touch for Labor - noon
• What's the Point in getting Poked? (on acupuncture) - noon
• Nitrous Oxide in Labor - 1 p.m.
• Baby and Me Yoga - 1 p.m.
There will also be activities for your kiddos throughout the day.
