There are 18 city and nine county public pools in the area. We are going to all of them so we give you a glimpse of what each one is like.
Which ones have shade? Which ones have grass? Do they have slides but only allow certain ages to go on them? We will do the legwork, so you don't have to.
Freedom Pool
Freedom Pool is located on the north side of Freedom Park at 5000 E. 29th Street — between Swan and Craycroft. It is open for the summer season — June through August.
Pools: The main pool is 25 yards by 60 feet wide ranging from two-and-a-half to 10 feet deep. It has stair entry. There is a separate wading pool.
Hours: Recreational swim is from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Features: Simple pool with no extra features.
Shade: There is an awning you could get some relief from the sun under, but you won't have a good view of the pool if you're watching the kids. Bring an umbrella, sunglasses and a hat.
Seating: There are concrete benches in both pool areas.
Facilities: There are separate boys and girls bathrooms and showers.
Condition: The pools are clean and well kept. The ladies bathroom was dirty and smelled bad on our visit. There are no doors on the bathroom stalls, so if your kids are shy, you may want to hold a towel up for them.
Family time: This location does not offer family swim.
Kids call: If your kids just want to swim, it's fine. Wading pool is nice for younger children.
Bonus: Freedom Park has workout stations placed on the paved track that goes around the park. You could go workout, then cool off in the pool.
