The Red Cross is assisting three people displaced, along with their pets, by a morning fire at Β a midtown duplex Thursday.

No one was injured in the blaze that began on a front porch of a dwelling near North Stone Road and Glenn Street, possibly from improperly discarded smoking materials, the Tucson Fire Department said.

Multiple 911 calls around 6 a.m. reported smoke and flames. First responders found the front porch ablaze and flames spreading into the building, the department said in a news release.

One dog had to be rescued by firefighters, while two other dogs were removed to safety by their owners.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation but "discarded smoking materials is a potential cause," the fire department said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
