Lather on the sunscreen and grab your goggles, because the summer swim season at Pima County pools kicks off this weekend, with City of Tucson pools opening next week.
Eight Pima County pools will start welcoming guests back for recreational swimming on Saturday, May 29. With a predicted high of 100 degrees in the forecast that day, pools will be open just in time for a refreshing escape from the summer heat.Β
Here's which pools will be open, starting Saturday, May 29:

- Flowing Wells Pool,Β 4545 N. La Cholla Blvd.Β
- Manzanita Pool,Β 5110 S. San Joaquin Ave.
- Picture Rocks Pool and splash pad,Β 5615 N. Sanders Road
- Wade McLean Pool,Β 12000 W. Emigh Road
- Catalina Pool,Β 16562 N. Oracle RoadΒ
- Ajo Pool,Β 290 E. Fifth Street
A ninth county pool at the Northwest YMCA is closed for renovations.Β
Admission fees at the county's pools are $1 for children age 17 and under, $3 for adults age 18 and up. Discounted admission is available for adults and children who qualify.Β
If you want to get an early start on cooling off, two county splash pads are already open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.Β

Come Thursday, June 3, the City of Tucson is opening 12 of its pools. Entrance to city pools is free through the summer (ending Wednesday, Aug. 4).Β
The 12 city pools opening next week are:

- Catalina Pool,Β 2005 N. Dodge Blvd.
- Clements Pool,Β 8155 E. Poinciana Dr.
- Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center,Β 3455 E. Zoo Ct.
- Fort Lowell Pool,Β 2900 N. Craycroft Road
- Mansfield Pool,Β 2275 N. 4th Ave.
- Oury Pool,Β 665 N. Hughes St.
- PurpleΒ Heart Pool,Β 9800 E. Rita Road
- Quincie Douglas Pool,Β 1563 E. 36th St.
- Sunnyside Pool,Β 1725 E. Bilby Road
- Udall Pool,Β 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road
All of the pools will be open for recreational swim, with most also offering adult lap swim. Visit the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation website for hours and other information.
Per Pima County policy, everyone is required to wear masks when entering county buildings and anyone who is not fully vaccinated is advised to wear masks in public places when distancing from others cannot be maintained.Β
At city pools, face masks are optional for those who are vaccinated and recommended for anyone who isn't.
Pima County is also offering low-cost and free swim lessons for kids age 3 1/2 and up at its pools in June and July. VisitΒ pima.gov/swimlessonsΒ for more information. Registration is still open for the county's Novice Summer Swim TeamΒ open to children age 5 to 18Β and for its Junior Lifeguard program, which is open to children age 11 to 15.Β
The city is also holding swim lessons, which will be held for two sessions: July 6-16 and July 19-30. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 14. You can register here.
