University of Arizona Wildcats safety Scottie Young Jr. was arraigned on a domestic violence charge this morning and has a case management hearing scheduled for next month.
Young was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday on one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence assault with minor injury, but he did not appear at the hearing, court officials said.
He was spotted at football practice instead, while his attorney, Ali Farhang, appeared in court to ask that the hearing be rescheduled.
Farhang did not immediately respond to the Star's request for comment.
The Pima County Attorney's Office will be determining if Young qualifies for diversion, and if he does, his hearing will be vacated, said Pima County Justice Court spokeswoman, Micci Tilton.
Young was arrested by campus police September 27, after a student in one of the UA residence halls said that she'd seen him push another student into a wall, spit on and threaten the woman, according to a UA police report.
He admitted to police that the two had an argument, during which he grabbed the woman's wrist and spitting on her, the report said.
The woman was also arrested, but the case was dismissed by prosecutors Wednesday.
